Special Award 2023
Goes to Nicola Valerio, team president of "Golf Dei Castelli", for his commitment to golfers with intellectual disabilities
Since 2012, Nicola Valerio and his team have been committed to making the game of golf accessible to people with intellectual disabilities and giving them unforgettable experiences on the golf course.
Team dei Castelli has already represented Switzerland several times at Special Olympics competitions and has been awarded the UNIFIED label for the quality of its inclusive sports offer.
The vision
"We want to contribute to the development of people with intellectual disabilities through sport. Athletes have the opportunity to improve their self-confidence, their autonomy, their physical condition and to prove their courage by taking on new challenges. Our activities allow them to share unique experiences with other athletes, families and the community," explains President and Founder Nicola Valerio.
Special project 2024
This year, Team dei Castelli wants to take part in the world's largest tournament for mentally disabled athletes, which will take place in Macau from September 22 to 28, 2024, and set new standards.
Award - Swiss Golf Awards 2023
With the "Special Swiss Golf Awards 2023", the team has succeeded for the first time in gaining media coverage throughout Switzerland and communicating its concerns to a wider audience. "We want to dedicate the award to our disabled members. It serves as an incentive for us to pursue our goal of attracting people with intellectual disabilities to golf with even more motivation," says Nicola Valerio, visibly moved.
